Patron of the Rahn Schulen Kairo Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel is visiting our Rahn Schulen Kairo for the first time

The visit of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel was an eagerly awaited event – you can also say a historic moment – for all students as well as the whole team of RSK. From 20 – 23 March 2016 we had the great honor to welcome our new patron Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel at our Rahn Schulen Kairo.

On this occasion we held a ceremony together with the former Minister President of the Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the Federal State of Thuringia. Our students had the opportunity to show him their school and also give him an impression of their musical skills. Five of our first grade students were proud of giving him their bird pictures on the subject “letter V”. Prof. Dr. Vogel was very touched and delighted. As a small token of his thanks the whole class got some chocolate bars from him.

Among the numerous guests of the ceremony were also Atef Elfeki (Deputy Minister of Finance in Egypt), Simon Brumbeiss (Cultural Attaché of the German embassy – Department for Culture and Education), Dr. Suzann Radwan (Department for German Educational Cooperation at the Goethe Institute Egypt), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abu-Hattab Khaled (1982-1989 Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Language and Translations of the University Al-Azhar) as well as Dr. Dietrich Raue (curator of the Egypt Museum Leipzig, currently staying in Heliopolis).

The schedule for the next day included: visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, meeting at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as visit to the Goethe Institute Egypt. Furthermore, Prof. Vogel had the opportunity to visit several famous sights and attractions of Cairo, e.g. the Gizeh Pyramides, the “Ancient Coptic Churches of Cairo”, the Khan Khalili Bazaar as well as the mosque of Hussein.

On 21-03-2016 our patron Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel (right) visited our Rahn Schulen Kairo. CEO Gotthard Dittrich was the first who gave him a warm welcome.

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel is taking over the patronage for our Rahn Schulen Kairo

The idea of making Prof. Dr. Vogel patron of the Rahn Schulen Kairo was developed by Sameh Elmahmoudy, Gotthard Dittrich and Prof. Dr. Vogel during a conversation at the graduation ceremony in Neuzelle in summer 2014.

Since its foundation in 2007, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel (former Minister President of the Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the Federal State of Thuringia) has been patron of our primary school in Altenburg. Since then there has been regular and good contact between Prof. Dr. Vogel and the school operator Dr. P. Rahn & Partner. In 2014 we had the honor to have Prof. Dr. Vogel as keynote speaker on the graduation ceremony in Neuzelle. On this occasion he also had the possibility of getting some more detailed information about the international orientation of Rahn Education. Following to a conversation between Sameh Elmahmoudy (member of the Board of Directors of the Rahn Dittrich Group European Foundation for Education and Culture), Gotthard Dittrich (CEO) and Prof. Dr. Vogel it was decided to make Prof. Dr. Vogel patron of the Rahn Schulen Kairo as well.

In October 2015 the patronage was officially confirmed on both sides and became valid from this day on. Prof. Dr. Vogel indicated the reason for his decision: “I admire the initiative and the courage of Rahn Education in its engagement in Cairo, which is an important contribution to the stabilization of the country as well as to the strengthening of the relationship between Germany and Egypt. I want to give my support by taking over the patronage.” Gotthard Dittrich certainly was quite happy about this remarkable development. He said: “We are so proud and happy that we could convince the outstanding representative of the political life and honorary chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Prof. Dr. Vogel to support the development of an independent, non-profit German school abroad.” According to Prof. Dr. Vogel the term "patronage" is to be taken literally: “If it will be really raining one day, I will keep my umbrella over RSK!”

It is scheduled that Prof. Dr. Vogel will visit himself our RSK in March 2016. The whole team of our Rahn Schulen Kairo is eagerly awaiting this event.

International graduation (Abitur) in German language: Rahn Schulen Kairo is driving the qualification process forward

The opportunity of the international Abitur in German language at the Rahn Schulen Kairo (RSK) as of 2017 is drawing closer. End of September 2015 our school management participated in the IB workshop in Barcelona within the framework of the candidate program for achieving the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Over the next few weeks our teachers will take part in several IB-workshops as well.

On 1 October 2015 the school management met with Katrin Fox, Manager of the IB-DP schools in Africa, Europe and Middle East, as well as with Heather Lapper, Manager for development and approval in Africa, Europe and Middle East, in order to held preliminary discussions in terms of further important steps being required for the authorization to the IB-Diploma Program. In this context the Canadian Heather Lapper is the single point of contact for RSK from now on.

Looking back: since 1 September 2015 our RSK has been “Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program”. For several months, our school has been preparing intensively for the implementation of the IB (internationally acknowledged Abitur). On the conference for the secondary level, which took place in spring 2015, all teachers for instance discussed the general conditions for achieving the IB. Furthermore, in Frankfurt/Main our management took part in a workshop for pedagogical management staff specifically focused on all schools aiming at the IB qualification.

RSK has set itself the objective of getting the accreditation – as of 2017 – as school with international Abitur (IB-DP) in German language according to the standards of the International Baccalaureate Organization. Prerequisite for the authorization is a multi-stage candidate phase.

We hope you will enjoy browsing our website! English and Arab translations will follow quite soon.

Welcome back to the new school year 2015/16

Holidays are over - the new school year starts again.

We would like to welcome back all students and we are quite happy about all the new faces at RSK. The new school year is gonna be exciting. Also this school year we will offer our students a lot of possibilites for intercultural exchange between Egypt and Germany. Some of our students already had the opportunity to gather many positive experiences during their language camps in Neuzelle (Germany) and Zielona Gora (Poland), where they acquired valuable language certificates. Please be assured - we will continue with those projects. Our newly opened music school - the School of Music and Art Cairo (Musik- und Kunstschule Kairo) - can be considered a milestone in the history of RSK. There our students can use an expanded range of extracurricular activities in the fields of music and dance for children, youths and adults.

Opening of our new music school

We are proud to announce that on time at the beginning of the new school year 2015/2015 our new "School of Music and Art" will be opened, which is the first independent school of its kind in Cairo, where interested children, youths and adults are being taught in music and dance. We have highly qualified and expierenced music teachers, who teach according to the curriculum of the Association of German Music Schools.

The program focuses on:

  • early musical education for children
  • early education in dance for children
  • Children can choose between several instruments - depending on their personal interests and skills.
  • The Orff Group is connecting language, movement and making music together.

Our ambition is to constantly expand the range of offers at our music school. In Addition to the above mentioned items, there will also be courses on several dance styles, instrument and vocal training.
